Even so, many people may not be familiar with this relatively new treatment concept. At Cornell Dental, we believe patient education is key to providing a safe, effective, and comfortable experience. What Are Dental Implants?


A dental implant is a tiny titanium screw that we surgically embed into the jawbone. Once in place, the implant serves as the root component of a prosthetic tooth. The implant screw is then attached to an abutment, or support structure, which links the screw to the restoration. If you are missing multiple teeth, we place a series of implants to support a larger restoration.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?


Dental implants are ideal for patients missing one or more teeth. As long as you are well enough to undergo minor oral surgery, you should qualify for implant treatment. If your bone is too thin or too soft to support the screw, we may recommend a bone graft first. Dr. Anthony Adams will discuss the possibility of implant treatment during your initial consultation.

What Is the Success Rate of Dental Implants?


The success of implant treatment varies from patient to patient. However, dental implants have one of the highest success rates of any restorative treatment. Many studies have shown that the implant procedure is successful 90 to 95 percent of the time. This is largely due to the process of osseointegration, where the implant screw permanently fuses to the jawbone.

How Do You Care for Dental Implants?


Because the implant fuses with your bone, it does not require any special care. Most implant-supported restorations can be treated just like your natural teeth. Be sure to implement a good oral hygiene regimen, with regular brushing and flossing. You should also schedule regular checkups and professional cleanings.

Is Dental Implant Surgery Painful?


Thanks to improved techniques, modern technology, and effective medications, dental implant surgery is virtually painless. How Long Do Dental Implants Last?


Dental implants are widely considered to be one of the most durable restorations available today. Implant-supported restorations have improved longevity over traditional appliances like dentures and partial bridges. With the proper care and maintenance, a dental implant can last for many decades. How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?


The cost of dental implants varies from patient to patient. It typically depends on the type of restoration you need and the number of missing teeth. However, dental implants can be cost-effective in the long run. Other restorations require repairs or replacement much more frequently than dental implants. These costs can add up over time.
