What Are the Most Important Nutrients for My Dental Health?

Posted on 8/1/2024 by Cornell Dental
Black woman surrounded by healthy food after making appointment at Cornell Dental in Hillsboro, ORIt can be daunting to remember all of the vitamins and minerals you need to keep your body strong and healthy. If you can remember to take a multivitamin each day, that will help you continue to be healthy. However, if you really want to focus on part of your body and take great care of it, we would like to make a case for your teeth and gums. Here are some nutrients your teeth and gums need in order to stay healthy and strong.

Calcium, Vitamin D, and Phosphorous

Many people realize that calcium is essential for your bones, which include your teeth. However, your body does not always absorb calcium well. In fact, both vitamin D and phosphorous help your body absorb more vitamin D. All three of these nutrients not only strengthen your bones and teeth but also help block the bacterial acids that cause dental decay, which will keep your teeth stronger over time.

Vitamin C

If calcium, vitamin D, and phosphorous are crucial for tooth health, vitamin C is crucial for gum health. It is difficult to overestimate the importance of vitamin C to your body. Vitamin C is an important anti-inflammatory, which means it helps keep inflammation levels in your body down. Also, vitamin C promotes good blood flow and circulation, which helps your gums stay healthy. Vitamin C helps you heal more quickly from an injury and can help you fight off infections.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A has several benefits for both your teeth and gums. The nutrient helps repair damage to both your teeth and gums after an injury. Also, vitamin A helps increase saliva production, which rids your mouth of the bacteria that cause dental issues like cavities and gum infections.

Not sure if you are getting enough vitamins and nutrients for your dental health? We can help. Contact our office today to make an appointment with our dentist.
