Signs That Your Child Has Cavities

You must take good care of them, teach them, and check for signs of oral issues. For instance, cavities, common oral issues in kids, can lead to pain and discomfort. If left untreated, cavities can cause infections, leading to gum disease. A good way to avoid these complications is by spotting oral cavities early. Learn 3 symptoms that indicate cavities in children:

Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity is a common sign of cavities. It occurs when the enamel becomes weak due to acids or injury. When the enamel is insufficient to protect the dentin, sugar, hot, and cold temperatures will likely stimulate the nerves, causing pain.

Do you know you can reverse cavities by improving your baby's oral hygiene habits? This may involve brushing their teeth using fluoride toothpaste to remineralize the tooth. You can also treat tooth sensitivity caused by cavities by cleaning your teeth regularly and focusing on dental appointments.

Holes, cracks, or chips may mean that cavities are progressing. Sometimes, the holes can develop on the sides of the teeth or in the grooves where you can't see them. Whether you can't see or feel the cracks, cavities can harm your child's oral health if not treated.

For this reason, you should make an appointment with a pediatric dentist. The professional may recommend filling or placing a crown to cover the damage. In severe cases, a root canal may be necessary to remove the decayed part.

White Or Dark Spots

Tooth discoloration is another sign of cavities. During the early stages of cavities, you will likely notice white spots, which can darken as decay progresses. However, stains on the teeth do not always indicate cavities.

Sometimes tooth discoloration can occur due to certain foods and beverages, such as wine. Thus, it would be helpful to visit a pediatric dentist to determine whether the discoloration indicates cavities or other issues.

Do you suspect any of these signs? Contact us, and our specialist will determine an effective way to treat cavities and ensure a healthy mouth for your child.
